Junk Mail
10 July 2006
We have been trialling a new spam email package called 'MailScanner' on our servers which checks incoming emails by running a variety of functions to detect whether the emails are genuine or rubbish. This program also scans for viruses and scam emails. When MailScanner encounters an email that is uncertain, then it is marked as {Spam?} in the subject header of the email. With this help, it's possible to quickly pick out relative emails, and just give a cursory glance to those marked as spam. Also, if you use Thunderbird (a free to download and use email program), you can set up a filter which will automatically junk all emails set as spam. It's a small measure, but should go a long way to relieving the burden of checking hundreds of irrelevent emails each week.
