Over the weekend some spammer sent out hundreds of thousands of spam emails advertising printer ink and toner cartridges. In order to deflect the blame, he forged the email addresses of two of our clients onto these emails. The result was that we received hundreds of thousands of bounces. The spammer used a distributed network of 'zombies' to send the mail, which grossly overpowered our ability to handle the inevitable bounces. The result has been very poor web and mail performance over the past couple of days.
